AGOA Assistance

Reap the Benefits of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA)

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) is a U.S. trade preference program that allows virtually all goods produced in AGOA-eligible countries to enter the U.S. market duty-free. Currently, 39 countries are eligible for AGOA benefits, including all 15 West African countries. As an integral part of the U.S. Government’s Prosper Africa initiative, the Trade Hub provides support to West African businesses and U.S. importers to take advantage of AGOA benefits.

AGOA Export Promotion Program

The Trade Hub is encouraging export-ready, or quasi-export-ready private sector companies in West Africa to apply for the AGOA Export Promotion Program that provides technical assistance. The overall objective of this program is to expand West African exports to the U.S. markets with the increased use of the AGOA benefits.

To be eligible under this program, a West African company must have:

  • a good capacity of production with no major constraints on the supply side
  • quality products that meet international standards
  • previous experience in export
  • interest in starting or increasing exports (sales) to the United States
  • the ability and willingness to contribute financially, when needed, with at least 25% of total Technical Assistance cost.
